Some insurance companies, in an effort to be more efficient, use a third-party administrator to handle their glass claims. These companies will ask you to call a toll free number to complete your claim. What is often not explained to you as an insured is that these billing networks are most often owned and operated by large national glass companies.
Most of these networks do not identify themselves as such when an insured person calls in and may lead you to believe that you are speaking to a representative of your insurance provider. Some will even use “tactics” to convince you to use one of their company-owned service centers for your glass replacement as it is obviously in their best interest to do so.
Some of our customers have reported that, upon calling the toll free number given to them by their insurance company, they were transferred from person to person and left on hold for excessive amounts of time.
